Auxiliary

An Organization Committee was formed at a luncheon at the American Legion Hall in Stayton on January 23, 1951. The meeting was held for all interested women in the area, of which 138 attended. Even before the hospital was constructed the Auxiliary had sewing circles to sew articles needed for the hospital. Whatever the Auxiliary members could make at less of a cost than buying they made including draperies, garments, bedding, baby necessities etc.

Between January 23, 1951 and April 1953 before the hospital was built these women provided full course meals at night for the men soliciting the monies. Most men had worked all day and they didn’t even take time to eat at home before they went door to door for the money. The grocery stores and meat markets were very generous.

Ted and Frances Freres donated 4 plus acres for the hospital site.

Once the hospital was built, the Auxiliary continued as their primary fundraiser. Since its inception the Auxiliary has continued to invest their time and monies in support of hospital advancements. The Auxiliary has donated monies toward many equipment purchases and remodels, including the remodel of the Birthing Room, donation of a van, baby scales, wheel chairs, benches for the Memorial Garden, a bladder scanner and medical scholarships, just to name a few.

The Auxiliary’s most ongoing project has been the operations of the Gift Shop at the hospital. Much time, energy and thoughtfulness is given to it! Please stop by and visit the Gift Shop!
