History

Santiam Memorial Hospital is a 40-bed general hospital serving a population of more than 30,000 people. A model of community cooperation, the Hospital provides quality medical care in an environment designed to insure a maximum of comfort and the preservation of every patient’s dignity. It is the best of professional care as well as treatment with the personal touch.

The Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals and is a member of the Western Association of Hospitals and the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems.

In 1950, as a result of the concern for the health and welfare of the residents of the North Santiam area, community leaders formed a non-profit organization to plan for the construction of a hospital. The non-profit organization became Santiam Memorial Hospital. The hospital opened its doors in April, 1953 thanks to donations from more than 3,000 individuals and businesses. Major expansion and remodeling programs occurred again in 1963, 1984 and 1993, to bring the Hospital to its present size.
